Softonic review

A updated and improved way to get platforming love!

Love was a tiny, brutal retro platform game, and developer Fred Wood has created a slightly friendlier version, in the shape of Love+. this version is more stable, has features that make it a little easier and less frustrating, and boasts eleven great electronic compositions for the soundtrack.

Love Plus+ pits you against ten levels of perilous platforms, requiring pixel perfect leaps. There are just four controls, left right, jump and the new feature - Spawn. Hit the 'S' key anywhere, and you'll respawn there when you die. And you will no doubt die! The Spawn button, assuming you use it, really reduces frustration, as it stops you having to repeat large stretches of levels over and over again!

The game starts with 100 lives, but you can't waste them, because it gets very tricky at times. Ten lives per level is actually not very many! The blocky graphics are stylishly eighties looking, and the soundtrack is very good. The only let-down is the sound effects themselves, which often sound out of place over the soundtrack.

If you're a fan of platforming, this back to basics approach should really test your skill. Its high difficulty may put some players off though, and the retro graphics maybe a bit too minimal for people who don't remember the old days of computing!

Love+ is a cool looking and sounding platform game, great for purists and hardcore gamers, but maybe a little frustrating for casual gamers.

PROS

  • Devious level design
  • Great soundtrack
  • Re-spawn button

CONS

  • Even 100 lives is too little
  • No save
